The Hazards of Asbestos
Asbestos is a hazardous building material that must be inhaled to cause disease. Intact and undisturbed asbestos presents no direct health hazard but does present a potential exposure hazard should fibres be released and inhaled. Asbestos-related diseases include asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. Once embedded in lung tissue, asbestos fibres may remain within the body for extended periods.
